Transforming Climate Solutions into Sensory Experience
At a craft table in Hudson Yards, Manhattan, a group of climate futurists pass around a strip of seaweed textile. Gummy, pliant, alive-feeling, it becomes an instant symbol of what the Marketplace of the Future is designed to do: transform climate solutions from abstract policy into sensory experience. This year, the 2025 edition unfolded as a luminous convergence of food, craft, conversation, and invention, filling the air with jazz, the scent of herbs, and the hum of possibility.
Evidence-Based Hope: A Theory of Change
This 9th annual world’s-fair-style expo—founded by Amer Jandali— is part trade show, part festival, and part thought experiment. Its theory of change is rooted in five steps: demystify emissions sources, identify lower-carbon products, curate innovators, present them as evidence of the future, and wrap it all in joy.
“Evidence-based hope—a space that transmutes climate action into something tangible, joyful, and irresistible.”
It is, in Jandali’s words, “evidence-based hope”— a space that transmutes climate action into something tangible, joyful, and irresistible. The guiding principles hold strong: Humans are nature, and our healing is bound together. Tipping points are nonlinear, meaning what feels fringe today may tomorrow define the mainstream. Shared vision is the compass. And above all: the future is here, now.
A Multi-Sensory Celebration
The event featured food and product vendors, exhibitors, panel discussions, workshops, immersive activations, crafting activities, live music, and a nightlife portion, including a”plastic-free” nightclub campaign announcement by Bye Bye Plastic, an afro-futurist sustainable fashion show with Black Oak Collective, and an incredible DJ lineup. All the senses could be engaged in this playful but profound space of exploring the cutting edge of sustainable innovation.

The Future Embodied in Entrepreneurs and Dreamers
Exhibitors and vendors played an important role in reminding us that the future is not some distant shore, it is here, embodied in entrepreneurs, artists, farmers, and dreamers who bring tomorrow’s climate solutions into today’s hands.
“The future is not some distant shore, it is here, embodied in entrepreneurs, artists, farmers, and dreamers who bring tomorrow’s climate solutions into today’s hands.”
Exhibitors made hope tangible, linking wearables to climate data and reimagining education through soil; food vendors drew long lines, proving that ecological eating doesn’t require abstinence—it can taste like celebration. Guests wandered through bustling stalls, each one a piece of evidence that the “preferable future” is already alive.
Invitations to Participate and Shape the Possible
Pinterest’s activation revealed the hidden makeup of our clothes, sparking awareness of fashion’s true costs. MILPA Farms Directory invited guests to weave wreaths from locally farmed herbs and flowers, grounding climate action in ritual beauty. Laiyoneth Hurtado and “Climate Diva” Summer Dean led seaweed textile making, unfurling samples of ocean-grown fabrics, ushering in the dawn of sustainable textiles. These weren’t just displays—they were invitations to participate, to shape the possible.

Urgency Softened into Joy
Between live jazz notes, clinking glasses, and the warmth of shared laughter, the event hummed with a rare alchemy: urgency softened into joy, and activism transmuted into belonging.
“Urgency softened into joy, and activism transmuted into belonging.”
Conversations bloomed—at Listening Lab tables, strangers became kin, weaving new threads of community.
Reframing the Story: A Field of Tipping Points
The Marketplace of the Future (MOTF) does more than showcase innovation—it reframes the story. Climate change is not a catalog of despair, but a field of tipping points, ripe with possibility. Like the television’s sudden adoption in the mid-20th century, climate solutions too can leap from fringe to mainstream with startling speed.
A Testament: We Can Build the World We Long For
MOTF whispers (and sometimes shouts): the future is already speaking through us. And in this space of food, music, craft, and care, we hear it clearly. If climate doom is the shadow, this event is the lantern. Evidence-based, human-centered, and overflowing with joy, the Marketplace of the Future 2025 is not just a fair, but a testament: we can build the world we long for, and we can start today.
For those who attended, the effect was both political and personal. As one attendee put it, tracing her hands over a seaweed swatch:
“If we can fall in love with these solutions like we’ve fallen in love with consumption, change isn’t just likely– it’s inevitable.”
