The art of presence is cultivated through many small moments. Both cannabis and wine have been conduits for people to open themselves to other realms of thinking. When tasting a wine, there are several steps that help hone the senses to experience a better whole. These time-tested principles can now be applied to observing and consuming cannabis flower.
The following analysis is a playful exercise through a powerful means of observation; to fully acknowledge and respect cannabis flower. Give yourself some time. Our senses shepherd the way to the wonders of the world. Let yourself be marveled by the details that come up for you.
Wine
- Look at the color of the wine, we call it in French “the dress.” Is it golden, or deep ruby? Is there somewhere in your memory you have seen a similar color? A lipstick stain, a sunset?
- Swirl it in your glass to release the flavors, exhale, close your eyes, put your nose in the glass. Find a mental blank space. What do you smell? Roses? Red currant?
- Open your eyes, bring the glass to your lips and taste, mouth-washing it a bit.
- Close your eyes again, any new flavors? See how long the taste and smell lingers.

Weed
- Take the flower bud in your fingertips, holding to a light, look at the color, the geometric complexities. What shade of green is it? Have you seen it before? In a landscape? A painting?
- Smell the flower, what are you smelling? Lemon meringue pie? Purple basil?
- Feel the flower in your fingertips, how much crunch is there? How sticky is it?
- Take in the first hit, close your eyes, feel the sensations on your lips and notice any new flavors.
