I spent four days in a jungle next to the beach, moving from talk to workshop to sunset to dancing all night to sunrise to six hours of sleep—and back again.
Envision Festival is mecca for bass-music lovers, which I am not, but since meeting a new lover who got me more comfortable with the world of contact dance, I finally understand it. There’s something extremely primal about it, particularly during the last 30 minutes of Clozee’s set. Holy wow. The sensual energy was tangible throughout the entire front section of the crowd, where the contact dancers lived for the whole festival.
The music was overall excellent. Traveler was the most surprising discovery for me—I had never heard of him before. He played some really cool, unexpected modern remixes of old electronic classics. Fabian Krooss sucked me into his first set so hard that I had to pull myself out of the trance that I was about to fall into. I’ve had my fair share of getting lost in the music.

One clothing brand in particular caught my eye, Karuna. Their super-soft cotton fabrics and skimpy cuts made for the perfect jungle festival wear. I bought two sets. Highly recommend if you’re ever in Costa Rica or need something small and breathable for summer weather.
I was heavily drawn to the art, as usual. I met a man in the crowd dressed as some kind of Arabic mushroom king and had to say hello. He had a 3D laser-cut staff that said Mushroom City. He told me to find him in the art gallery, so I went there and scoured every piece. I didn’t know what I was looking for, but I knew when I found it.

And the festival people—oh, the festival people. You know the kind I’m talking about. The kind that makes you wonder if any of them have jobs in the real world. They do! They’re just like us… but with a higher percentage of life coaches, wellness influencers, and ephemeral nomadic pixie dream girls. The girls were hot. There was a much higher percentage of attractive women than men for some reason.

Sunrise at the beach was a huge highlight for me. One morning, after jumping into the vast expanse of crystalline blue water, letting the waves roll over us, my companion and I sat in the muddy sand and made drip castles together. I felt like a kid again. Being connected to nature is something I deeply miss, living in New York City.
